Math à la Carte has the rights to the mathematical software libraries developed at JPL (a NASA contractor affiliated with CalTech) over a 30 year period. This is well-documented software available in Fortran 77 and in C (with a very few exceptions). As a service to the community interested in mathematical software, and in a blatant effort to get some attention, Math à la Carte is hosting a site based on the "mom" system. This part of the site will be managed in a way that tries to be neutral as far as providing accessibility to software that we provide and the software of others.
There will be four kinds of software available from this site.
All software that we sell is available for trial use, and can be paid for by either credit card (some day) or check. We keep track of people who have downloaded software and who are expected either to pay for it or delete it. We remind them periodically to do one or the other until they do (or at least say they have). If there is some reason (bug, upgrade) to notify users of a package we send E-mail to all the users of a package.
If you are interested in contributing software to the site, see information for contributors.
Although the source code for our software will be available, it will not be free (as in beer or speech). It is our belief that those who create software deserve to be compensated for their efforts, as well as those who provide support. By making this a low overhead operation, we hope to funnel as much of the profits from software as possible to those who write the code.
Math à la Carte is a privately held corporation with a commitment never to go public. If the business model proves viable, profits will be used to support research work in computational mathematics, and the company will be given to someone with similar ideas.
Math à la Carte can be reached at (818)352-3244 or by Email (preferred if you are in doubt).
